Geometry Dash is a one-button game that may be controlled by a controller, keyboard, mouse, or touchscreen. In order to get to the finish of a level, the player controls how their symbol moves by pushing or holding. If the player collides with a sawblade, spike, wall, or ceiling, the level is restarted. In the "practice mode," the player may set checkpoints to rehearse a level or examine it, but they cannot gather money or advance in the regular game. An important aspect of the game is the in-game music's timing and rhythm, which are often related to one another.[1]

One (or two, if in dual mode) of the eight distinct game modes—each of which reacts differently with every interaction—becomes the player's symbol. Portals that let the player switch between the eight game modes, invert gravity, shrink the symbol, adjust their pace, mirror their movement, and teleport further complicate player movement. Moreover, the player may be moved in different directions or have their gravity altered by using pads and orbs.

The entire edition of Geometry Dash consists of 26 major levels, 20 of which are unlocked upon installation. Completing map packs is another way to get secret coins, which are needed for three of the levels. Completing the previous levels is also necessary for the four platformer levels, three of which are originally locked. Although the Challenge is regarded as an official level, it is not. After completing a level, incentives are awarded.[1][2] Auto, Easy, Normal, Hard, Harder, Insane, and Demon (which includes five subcategories: Easy Demon, Medium Demon, Hard Demon, Insane Demon, and Extreme Demon) are the seven difficulty classifications for levels. Achievements may be earned by players to unlock prizes like colors or icons.[3] In order to get various symbols and colors, players may also use five stores that accept orbs or diamonds.
